Our Graceful Words starts out anything but soft and gentle as perhaps the word 'graceful' may imply. It's hard, it's
fast, and they don't waste a single second throwing their energy driven
rock at you. Very apparent from Track 1 (New Fire) all the way to Track
11 (True Bride) is the handiwork of producer Mister Aaron Sprinkle.
Aaron has also been responsible for production every Demon Hunter album
and you can hear a little Demon Hunter influence in this album. So if
you're a Demon Hunter fan, it might be worth adding a little Sent By
Ravens to your repetoire.
After the first two songs New Fire and An Honest Heart, comes I Hear
Her Breathe. A remarkably deceptive song. Aside from the catchy hook,
the depth and passion in the lyrics resounds with truth - yet I have
difficulty figuring out exactly what the reference means.
"What kind of son would I be if I let her sleep? What kind of
brother would I be if I let her sleep. She's gonna speak. I can hear
her breathe. She is coming back to me. And when she speaks, can we
live with what we've done. She's moving and I am terrified that we
can't hear the whisper."
A lot of the album talks about revival in the church and one can
only assume that "She" is the church. If that is the case those are
some fairly convicting questions.. what kind of son/brother would I be
if I let her sleep? You'll find similar messages of conviction,
encouragement, and insight through other songs like Jill Plays Tricks,
Jack Plays God, Salt and the Light, and True Bride.
Now on the off chance all you got is $0.99 to throw at a song, I'd
have to throw my vote for Track 5 - Trailer vs Tornado. This track is
partially responsible for what turned the Tooth and Nail eye to these
guys and get the signed. It's great for driving, just watch your speed
while you go.
