Ever heard of TOMS Shoes? If not, that's okay. Let us educate you. Here in Canada we can easily take for granted our shoes. How much do we spend on shoes? If you're me... maybe around $50 a year. I know of a few females in my life that certainly have about $500 worth of shoes (Come on Ladies, you know how it is with stereotypes... if the shoe fits...).
Well there are others in the world who not only don't have shoes, don't have cars or bikes or anything like that. Their feet are their primary mode of transportation. It's absolutely important to their livelihood. Where if they get cuts, scrapes, wounds, and if they get infected how are they supposed to continue their day? This isn't living pay cheque to pay cheque... this is living penny to penny.
This is where TOMS Shoes comes in. Buy yourself a new pair of shoes and they will donate another pair to someone else who desperately needs it. It's just that simple.
BUT IGNITE107, HOW DO I HELP?
You buy shoes at their website right here.
Check out they describe themselves:
One for One
TOMS Shoes was founded on a simple premise: With every pair you
purchase, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. One for
One. Using the purchasing power of individuals to benefit the greater
good is what we're all about.
Our Story
In 2006 an American traveler, Blake Mycoskie, befriended children in
Argentina and found they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to
help, he created TOMS Shoes, a company that would match every pair of
shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. One
for One. Blake returned to Argentina with a group of family, friends and
staff later that year with 10,000 pairs of shoes made possible by
caring TOMS customers.
Since our beginning, TOMS has given over 400,000 pairs of shoes to
children in need through the One for One model.
Our ongoing community events and Shoe Drop Tours allow TOMS
supporters and enthusiasts to be part of our One for One movement. Join
us.
