We Day 2012

"There's a difference between knowing the path, and walking the path."

I really don't think I've ever been anywhere that had SO many youth present, that had SUCH a passion to make a difference.  I mean seriously, the atmosphere there was electrofying to say the very least.

Quick rundown on what We Day actually is.  It's been going on since 2007 encouraging youth to rise up and be the change we want to see.  It's put on by Free the Children (which was founded back in 1995 by Craig Kielburger when he was only 12 years old.  That man definirely practiced what he preaches).  Just this year was it announced that We Day will be going international starting next year!!

There was seriously so much going on, and SO many AMAZING people speaking that it's nearly impossible to pick a favourite moment.  I'd have to say mine was the interview with former Soviet Leader Mikhail Gorbachev.  I mean, the guy brought down the Berlin Wall for crying out loud!

"Preserve peace: our first priority. Stay united. Don't let people divide and exploit you" - Mikhail Gorbachev

I wanted to know what everyone's favourite part of We Day was.  Here's what Nelson had to say:

"Greatest part of We Day for me was the variety of speakers. One gentleman who has no legs "climbed" by hand to the top of a mountain. Another girl who was blind and on crutches was taken to the middle of woods by girls and they broke her crutches and left her for dead. She now speaks out against bullying.

Through these incredible challenges, these Individuals have been able to share their storie
s of overcoming. They encourage and inspire others rather than complain about their situations. They make a difference.

Many of us see the path ahead and want to see change. Few of us will venture onto the path to make change happen.

The lights and music were awesome to ignite the youth - hopefully that same passion to see change will be inside them from now on. The most important is to now TAKE ACTION and decide how they will be making a difference.

All in all, awesome day!  So well organized, tailor-made to youth of today down to the text and twitter activities. You volunteers were AMAZING!

Be the change you want to see in the world."

We Day is all about "empowering youth", but I think it goes even deeper than just youth.  I don't know of a single person who didn't leave that building uninspired.  If you were there, let me know your favourite part!  Email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Basketball vs. Frisbee Part II

Last year, these guys blew us away with their first trick shot video.

Well they're back, and better than ever.  (And they brought a skateboarding panda!!)

Here's the video they did last year.  Still awesome.

Lacey Leaving Flyleaf

So if you had been on the fence about getting Flyleaf's new album New Horizons (which drops October 30), GET OFF THE FENCE!!

Why?  Well, not only is the album going to be sweeeeeet (I mean, c'mon, it's Flyleaf), but it's also going to be the last album with Lacey Sturm.  I know what you're thinking, and yes, it's true.  Lacey Sturm is leaving Flyleaf.

Here's what Lacey had to say:

"I have been beyond blessed to be in Flyleaf for the past ten years, touring with 4 amazing men and the Flyleaf crew, whom I love like my flesh and blood family. They have all given so much. It took everyone on our team to make the beauty in Flyleaf possible. I am honored to have met so many wonderful people who love Flyleaf music all over the world. Your incredible stories continue to inspire me. I am very thankful to have recently become a mom to one of the greatest blessings of my life, my son Jack. You may have also heard that we recently lost our brilliant sound engineer, Rich Caldwell, in a devastating car accident. Now, more than ever, I understand the phrase Memento Mori. I understand that, for me, living life to the fullest in this season means to step down as the lead singer for Flyleaf. I wish the best to Jared, Pat, Sameer and James and I know that as I continue to pursue the highest heights of what I am created for, it will free them all to pursue that for themselves too.

The guys will continue to tour and write music together. I'm so very grateful that they are able to do what they desire and that there is a beautiful and talented, warm hearted girl like Kristen May to sing for them. Because of this, you will all get a chance to see a new Flyleaf show and support the new album.

As I take this first step on a new journey, I pray that each one of you would pursue your highest calling with reckless abandon as well, understanding that sometimes the fullness of life comes in doing things that are only understood by you, God, and the special people God has put in your life that truly love you for you… not for what you do, but for who you are. I love you guys so much and in many ways, I will stay in touch. May God bless you all with healthy hearts, full of courage to weather the journey to your own New Horizons."

Stepping in for Lacey will be Kristen May formerly of Vedera (and judging by her name alone, she's awesome!).

But still, Flyleaf without Lacey?  That'll take some getting used to.  In the meantime, here's their latest off New Horizons:
