So, I recently picked up the latest album, from Relient K, 'Forget And Not Slow Down'.  While this album has been out for a few months now, it has taken me this long to give it a listen.

I was never a big Relient K fan, I thought they wrote catchy songs, and did what they do, well.  In saying that, I never hated Relient K either.

When I first put 'Forget And Not Slow Down' on my iPod, I wasn't expecting much.  Maybe it would equate to an album that I listen to once, every few months.  Boy was I wrong.

'Forget And Not Slow Down' is easily the best work from Matt Thiesen, and boys.  I think a lot of that has to do with the circumstances surrounding the writing of this album.

I guess, right before writing started, Matt and his Fiance broke up.  I can only imagine that this would equate to a little  more pain than breaking up with your girlfriend of two months.  On top of that, when Matt began writing the album, he secluded himself in a cabin, in the middle of nowhere.

I think both of those happenings are evident in this album.

What this blog is about, isn't necesarily 'Forget And Not Slow Down', but rather a though that was spurred by listening to this album, and reading the story of how it came to be.  All of this, has brought some questions to my mind...

Is it selfish to get so much enjoyment out of someone's obvious pain?

and...

Seeing as such a killer album came out of such heartbreak...is there a list of bands, that you have liked at one point in time, or another, that you would want to see go through such heartbreak, to release their greatest piece of work yet?

These questions may seem odd, as many of the greatest songs ever written, were written out of painful heartbreak.  By no means is this album any different.  What is different, for me, is the fact that it has turned my ear to a band that I never really appreciated...until now.
