Hanging out with Inner City Youth Alive! |
|
Blue slushee in my shoe, cotton candy in my hair and stickers everywhere, AKA a typical day at work for the Ignite 107 summer events person! Today I got the chance to head down to Inner City Youth Alive for their community BBQ! There were live performances INCLUDING one by Winnipeg's own Fresh I.E. There was also free food, a petting zoo, a dunk tank and our Dream of a LImetime entry box!
The BBQ served me my 12th summer hotdog, BUT if you weren't a fan of hotdogs Tim Horton's was there serving up FREE coffee and Timbits! The petting zoo was also a neighbourhood favourite and one animal in particular seemed to be catching everyones eye: the turkey. I'm not sure if I've ever seen a turkey up close and personal like I did today, but I'm not going to lie they look VERY strange. It was an adventure for one of the ICYA staff to feel the turkey's head (pictured below). I of course had to try as well and I was surprised by how soft and fuzzy it was!
I was set up with the Dream of a Lifetime box throughout the event and got TONS of entries from people! It was most exciting to see the eyes of little 6-year-old Darryl light up when I told him that he could win a trip to Disney World! His first question was, "is that far?" When I told him he would have to take an airplane to get there he couldn't believe it!! He was SO excited!
The kids at Inner City Youth Alive also had a certain affinity for stickers it seems. Two hours and ALL my stickers were gone! But everyone was looking good decked out in CHVN and Ignite 107 stickers! And no worries, I'll get more stickers for my next event so if I see you there you can have a sticker too! :)
