Hot Pursuit 2010 July 21, 2010
The journey ended after traveling 2,330 kilometers at the Legislature building from White Rock, BC. Arvid Loewen was accompanied by police upon arrival where many gathered to give their support of the long pursuit of biking solo with very little rest and in support for Mully Children’s Family Charitable Foundation. Wednesday, 1:45 p.m., Loewen had not only finished a pursuit that started on Saturday July 17th at 7am, but had done this in record breaking time and with even the bad weather that surely wasn’t shown to slow Loewen down. Arvid Loewen finished the Hot Pursuit in 99h 43m, and a total of 14 hours off the bike. Loewen says, “If I can get people inspired to follow a passion in their life and to simply get off the couch. It’s up to us to do some of those things and it’s up to us to make a difference.” With a few more teams that had taken part in the Hot Pursuit, Canadian Mennonite University (CMU), a team of five faculty members. Team CMU’s fundraising will go to their international student programs and the practica. They started 24 hours behind Arvid Loewen and with rotating members on the bike they reached the Legislative at 2:43am July 21. The non-stop biking across the Western Canada had surprised them with finishing 19 hours before anticipated time. Faculty member of CMU, Chris Huebner says: “we kept going faster then we thought and we revised our guess as to when we’ll get here, and that helped to motivate.” Team of 4 grandmothers had participated as well with raised funds going to the Mull’s Children Foundation. Joining the pursuit in Calgary, Alberta and meeting Arvid at the perimeter along with Team Winnipeg Police Service who were not able to complete the Pursuit following the first day due to sickness and other circumstances, joined as well to finish the last stretch of Hot Pursuit 2010. Winnipeg Police had been raising funds for the Children’s Wish Foundation. Members of team Gogos says “the most excited part of this event was coming in with Arvid and getting escorted by the Winnipeg Police, and besides falling off the bike and getting back on it again we had a great time.” The “grannies” along with the others, had made a journey across Western Canada in which caused burning legs and lack of proper sleep but all for these different foundations.
Loewen
says “whether you are inspired by this or not, it is an attempt for
people to get involved in simply saying hey I can do something for
other people, not just for myself.”

1 Million Pennies June 16, 2010 Have you ever seen 1 Million Pennies or even a million of something, well today I had the opportunity to see 10 Thousand Dollars worth of Pennies. St. John's staff and students gathered all these pennies from there own wallets and from the help of neighbors to fill the gymnasium at this Winnipeg High School. In honour of two former staff members and to celebrate their one hundreth anniversary, many helped to put this special day on. The event was inspired by the former industrial arts department head, Randy Engstrom who passed away in June of 2004 after a battle with brain cancer. Susan was there today with a smile so big because she finally got to see one million of something. She is the wife of Randy and as she explained, she told me that Randy always talked about how he wanted to see one million of something in a line or in a group but to see it was what he always wanted to see. Susan did exactly that and helped put this event on with St. John's High School, to spread this story of what happened to not only her husband but also another teacher who had the same cancer, Steve Slack. Every penny is being donated to Cancer Care Manitoba and the Canadian Cancer Society.

Before they stepped onto the field, they took the time to explain how as a prefessional athlete, they still are able to serve and worship together and how they do this on there own and with a group of teammates. With plenty of road trips and many baseball games the always make sure to put plenty of time a side.
Buy One Coffee, Help Send Many... June 2, 2010 A successful day all over the city at each Tim Horton's. June 2 was Tim Horton's Camp Day, a day where every coffee purchased helped send children to camp. There are five camps across Canada, and a single camp in the United States. Each one of these camps are filled every year with children who experience a week of activites and adventure. The importance of these camps are that each child that goes to camp will develop friendships, leadership skills, and will increase a sense of self-esteem, so when they come back they will be able to do anything they set there minds to. This year 9.7 Million dollars was raised and more then 14,000 children, who could otherwise not afford it, will attend the Foundation's six camps. Each Tim Hortons store owner works with local schools, cluba, and youth agencies to find kids between ages nine and 12 years old to attend camps. These sessions are 10 days and are totally paid for. What a experience for these kids and this was all possible due to one day of people giving some spare change and buying coffee With help from the local Tim Horton's, Ignite was able to attend and do live broadcasting from four different locations from 6AM-2PM. It was not only the help of the station, but also with players from the Blue Bombers, and many school who took the day to volunteer, the day was a huge success.
