| Interview w/ an Online RPG Game Creator |
|
I had the opportunity to speak with Michael Hartman of Frogdice Inc to talk about online roleplaying games. Admittedly, I do enjoy the odd online roleplaying game. However, there are times that I have been looked down on or questioned because of the fantasy nature of some of the content. Before you judge it, I would ask that you take a second to step back and think about how community orientated this niche of people are. Especially in part 2 of the interview. Frogdice Inc has created one successful online RPG called Threshold and has another in the works called Primordiax. Given the moral and ethical nature, problems, and questions inherent in any true roleplaying game the games require you to be 18+. Threshold is in it's 13th year of existence and still going strong. It boasts a very large player base even for a strictly text-based game. A huge world of easily over 10,000 rooms. If you like World of Warcraft, like reading, and looking for something to challenge your mind a little more than just grinding through quests to get your level 80 Rogue, maybe give it a shot.

That was a great interview. I envy you the first time experience you're about to have. Threshold is a fantastic game that exercises your mind and imagination in ways other games simply do not. As stated in the interview, the community is a powerful draw and force in this game, but it's not the only thing! This game has other elements like exploration, mini-games, and even puzzles to solve.
Speaking from personal experience, the role-playing in this game is deep and rewarding. The community will help ease you into it especially if you've never done it before. The fact that everyone is in character helps tremendously for new people because it makes it easier to stay in character. After a short time in the game, you will quickly find you've made some friends, but don't get too comfortable because this world is alive! You might be enjoying a flagon of ale in the Green Griffon when the alarms go up to defend the city! Oh...you thought it was safe? Log in and find out... Sentinel 1 report abuse

I checked out this game, as I thought that it would be good - yeah, it's not. I wouldn't put any more time into even thinking about it, much less playing it. They need to keep it in development for several more years imo.
