Aelea's EXTENSIVE Underoath Review

Posted by kyle in musicevents

Have you met Aelea?  While Eric and I did our best to review the show, when it comes to concerts Aelea is in her element.  I'm more of a coffee shop kind of guy.  Dont get me wrong, I enjoy concerts.. but my mosh pit days are past.  Aelea however, she's not afraid to get covered in other people's sweat and rock out front and center.

Aelea's UNDEROATH Concert Review
underoath-concert.jpgI have a feeling I’ll write a ‘bit’ longer of a review then Kyle or Eric but that’s just because I feel the need to elaborate on how awesome everything about the show was.

First off, InnerPartySystem had such an amazing light show, if you were in a cartoon you’d been having seizures. Their music was solid and I could see people in the crowd dancing around and getting really into it. I don’t know a lot of people that knew about them before the show but Winnipeg now know the awesome that is InnerPartySytem.

Norma Jean was solid. The crowd loved them and they seemed to feed off the energy in the building. They did a set with both new songs and the old ones people love. There were times where the crowd was so loud I could barely hear the vocals from the stage. They definitely did NOT disappoint and all the Norma Jean fans in the building were stoked on the performance.

normajean.jpgUnderoath was on last. They brought something new to their show this time which I thought was very cool. They had a projection screen set up that played an intro video before they came on stage and that also switched graphics throughout their set and played as little tidbits of an “interlude”. It was very cool and very interesting. Underoath puts a lot of attention to detail in their performance which makes for an always impressive set. This show was the 7th time I’ve seen them live and every time seems like a first with all the new aspects they bring to every show they do. They played a solid set including many songs from their newest album, Lost in the Sound of Separation. Breathing in a new Mentality was near the beginning of the set which really got the crowd going as it is the first track off their latest album. The older songs they played were definite crowd pleasers (A Boy Brushed Red, Living in Black and White. It’s Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door). The band has amazing stage presence. Even during slower songs like “Too Bright To See, Too Loud To Hear” the crowd is still captivated by them on stage. If I were to have any complaint, it would be the same as any other Underoath fan – I wish they had been able to play longer. Overall, amazing show. It was most definitely the concert highlight of the year.

IGNITE VIP: Underoath Edition
ignitevip-winner.jpgThe amount of entries we received for our IGNITE VIP: UNDEROATH EDITION contest was HUGE! First off, I’d like to say thanks to QUEST MUSIQUE for the Aaron Gillespie Signature Snare Drum and to EMI MUSIC CANADA for letting us hang with Underoath.

The winner of the contest, Brett Emek was just about as stoked as we thought he would be. Pretty much speechless when he got the phone call. On the day of the show our first place and runner up winners arrived at the venue. We all chowed on a bit of pizza before being told we could go to watch Underoath do their soundcheck. They played The Created Void off their latest album, Lost in the Sound of Separation for us. We were able to take pictures of them performing. Our winners kind of stood near the back, in shock they were ACTUALLY there.

When Underoath finished they came out to the lobby with us to hang out, eat some pizza, sign autographs and get pictures. You could tell how excited everyone was to just be there in that moment. Our winners, Brett and Caleb, had their lives made that day and it’s a time they will never forget…really, how often do you get to hang out with your favourite band?
